This comment have been mostly since it's my fav franchise but I have to mention that unlike something like Mass Effect, don't expect a "complete" story through the whole trilogy. in most games romance quests are usually just helping you partner but the one in Witcher 3 is about confirming your love for your old partner which has very little impact if you don't know how their relationship started. As before you can play just the games but the whole experience wouldn't be complete if you don't know the stories from the books. Geralt now has all his memories back and he reconnects with his past friends and lover again. The "plot" is just finding your long lost adopted daughter but the focus is on the smaller stories (you could call them sub arcs) you find on that journey. Unlike the 1st game, if you don't mind reading books, I'd highly recommend reading the book series before playing this one.įinally we come to witcher 3 and this game is a journey. It's less about a complete story and more about Geralt finally learning his place in this world. You dive head first into the dirty politics and bigotry that permeate through every facet of the world. Witcher 2 is about the state of the world more than anything. It's self contained as Geralt is still getting his memories back. In Witcher 1 Geralt has amnesia so very little attachment to the world, thus the story is a well rounded traditional dark fantasy story. Thing is all 3 games have a different type of story. The paper-rock-scissors approach gives more emphasis on the atmosphere which I really like for this game and I wouldn't like it any other way, it's one of the charms of the game IMO. While I will agree that the combat in W1 is not good, it's not terrible either. Potions is a huge portion of what makes you stronger than other humans so you have to choose it carefully according to your build as well. Oils make the fights so much easier to deal with it that playing it on Hard (which is recommended) they are mandatory. A good example is alchemy, the game is really around what potions and oils you use but in Witcher 2 and 3, besides the healing potions you can essentially ignore alchemy if you wish. The combat stance is the main thing about it, but using the correct signs in battle is also encouraged. ![]() Most games nowadays gives more flexibility in how you play so its more of a "culture shock" if anything. The airplane, the ground systems, it’s all got to be foolproof. I have enormous confidence in the airplane, but the most important dimension for Boeing and the industry is going to be teaching the FAA how to certify autonomy. Wisk, the autonomous air-taxi venture in which Boeing just took a controlling interest, has been a pathfinder for autonomy and electric propulsion. When we talk about autonomous capability, the first thing pilots say is: “That sounds like they want to take one or maybe both of us out of the cockpit.” Here’s the words I would use: That is possible. The biggest and most important contribution to safety is going to be the rollout of autonomy. Human error is the biggest hurdle for us to get to the end game, which is no accidents, ever. What does that actually mean? Over the next 20-30 years, the primary incentive for autonomy is safety. You’ve said Boeing’s next commercial airplane will introduce a new level of autonomy. We believe in hydrogen, but it is a long way away. ![]() But I’m not sure that’s going to happen-not on the scale of airplanes we’re talking about. If I thought hydrogen was going to make a meaningful difference in 25 years, that would be a consideration. One of the criticisms of the TTBW is that the length of its fuselage makes it much harder to adapt to hydrogen propulsion. Those couple of years heading into ’28 will be very important as we mature and understand what it really does. I’m optimistic that something derived from this experience is going to give our propulsion players a bigger window to get to the finish line with us. The concept works in a wind tunnel, but until it flies on an airplane, you don’t know. That leaves an awful lot for the engine to do. ![]() You’ve said you need a 20-30% fuel-burn improvement, and NASA has suggested TTBW will get perhaps 9%. You seem to be warming to the transonic truss-braced wing (TTBW) as a potential for the next single-aisle. But the notion that somebody is going to get ahead of my competitor or us between now and 2035-I wish him luck. And what’s wrong with that? Three players competing in a gigantic global market is good for everybody. And then three players are going to be battling it out for a very long period of time. The player that is ultimately going to make a difference and become the third competitor is China. Does that open the door for a dark horse to challenge the duopoly? You don’t get a dark horse in this space at this scale in 10 years. But that would still be more than a quarter-century since either Airbus or Boeing launched a clean-sheet airliner. I just don’t know when they will mature.Īirbus’ CEO told us he is aiming to replace the A320neo family with a next-generation airplane as early as 2035 (page 46). I am very comfortable that the package of technologies we’re working on is going to add a lot of value to whatever that airplane is going to be. I don’t have a timeline for the maturity of those capabilities. I would rather invest in capabilities that, when we package them together, will meet that objective. The notion that we should be looking at niche opportunities or competitive dynamics over a short period of time-when you’re going to invest tens of billions of dollars in a program for 50 years-is just silly. These programs have got to be designed to last 50 years 20 or 30 years is a disaster. That is what will justify airlines making a move. I have been clear that we need something that delivers in the neighborhood of a 20-30% improvement over today’s airplanes. When is the earliest Boeing could launch a new clean-sheet airplane development and when is the earliest it could enter service? Everybody would like a timetable, but that’s not really how major airplane programs can or should be developed. Then, when Ross was 10 years old, a group of white men demanded his only childhood possession-the horse with the red coat. Clyde Ross did not, and thus lost the chance to better his education. It was too far for Ross to walk and get back in time to work in the fields. Ross’s teacher believed he should attend the local Rosenwald school. But Julius Rosenwald, a part owner of Sears, Roebuck, had begun an ambitious effort to build schools for black children throughout the South. There was very little support for educating black people in Mississippi. His teacher thought he should attend a more challenging school. “Some of the land taken from black families has become a country club in Virginia,” the AP reported, as well as “oil fields in Mississippi” and “a baseball spring training facility in Florida.”Ĭlyde Ross was a smart child. The land was taken through means ranging from legal chicanery to terrorism. The series documented some 406 victims and 24,000 acres of land valued at tens of millions of dollars. In 2001, the Associated Press published a three-part investigation into the theft of black-owned land stretching back to the antebellum period. And so for the upkeep of separate but equal, the entire Ross family was reduced to sharecropping. Effectively, the Ross family had no way to contest the claim and no protection under the law. He could not expect the police to be impartial. He did not know anyone at the local courthouse. When Clyde Ross was still a child, Mississippi authorities claimed his father owed $3,000 in back taxes. “You had to sneak away.” “Some of the land taken from black families has become a country club in Virginia,” the AP reported. “You didn’t talk about it or tell nobody,” Earvin said. In her 2010 book, The Warmth of Other Suns, Isabel Wilkerson tells the story of Eddie Earvin, a spinach picker who fled Mississippi in 1963, after being made to work at gunpoint. Well into the 20th century, black people spoke of their flight from Mississippi in much the same manner as their runagate ancestors had. ![]() Refusing to work meant arrest under vagrancy laws and forced labor under the state’s penal system. A man or woman who protested this arrangement did so at the risk of grave injury or death. When farmers were deemed to be in debt-and they often were-the negative balance was then carried over to the next season. Tools and necessities were advanced against the return on the crop, which was determined by the employer. Many of Mississippi’s black farmers lived in debt peonage, under the sway of cotton kings who were at once their landlords, their employers, and their primary merchants. The state’s regime partnered robbery of the franchise with robbery of the purse. “You do it the night before the election.” “You and I know what’s the best way to keep the nigger from voting,” blustered Theodore Bilbo, a Mississippi senator and a proud Klansman. Between 18, more black people were lynched in Mississippi than in any other state. The majority of the people in the state were perpetually robbed of the vote-a hijacking engineered through the trickery of the poll tax and the muscle of the lynch mob. In the 1920s, Jim Crow Mississippi was, in all facets of society, a kleptocracy. When he first tried to get a legitimate mortgage, he was denied mortgages were effectively not available to black people. The word ‘would’ in the above sentence is one example of the conditional tense. I would love to visit several countries around the world, no doubt about it! To start with, here’s a quick example of the conditional tense being used in English: We use the Spanish conditional tense when describing situations that could ( podría), would ( haría) or should ( debería) occur in certain circumstances. And, note that this article does go into the subjunctive tense towards the end.īut let’s kick things off nice and simple by first outlining what the Spanish conditional tense is. If you’d like to develop your understanding of the conditional tense, this post is where you’ll get the facts. Of course, when you’re first introduced to any tense, it might take a bit of time to understand it. Just like the future tense, you should have no trouble understanding it with a little practice. When you compare it with the four tenses used to describe the past in Spanish and the subjunctive mood, the conditional tense is easy to conjugate and easier to use. As you can see, the rules for creating irregular future subjunctives don’t change when the verb is an -er or -ir verb. Here’s a small secret about the Spanish conditional tense. Here’s what dormir, an irregular -ir verb, looks like when in future subjunctive conjugation. Here is an example of an irregular -ar verb, estar, put into future subjunctive form: Take off the -ron from the end of this form and plug that stem into the first chart that was shown. The future subjunctive stem for all irregular verbs is the same stem you’ll find in the ellos/ustedes preterite form. There is an easy rule of thumb for creating irregular future subjunctive conjugations. So, here we’ll plug in the regular verb entrar, to enter: It’s useful to get an idea of how the future subjunctive really looks. Here are all of the future subjunctive endings: ![]() Remove the final r from the infinitive of the verb in question and add the appropriate ending. Note how it implies that the person signing the contract could receive money, but it is a hypothetical future event as of yet. The future subjunctive form in this example is in bold. How the Future Subjunctive Is Used Hypothetical Future Events The second most common place would probably be in older literature, if you happened to be studying it. The most common place to happen upon the future subjunctive nowadays is in legal documents. However, in modern times, there are only a few select situations where you might come across this antiquated verb form. However, you are almost guaranteed to never hear the future subjunctive used in speech, apart from a few old sayings like Venga lo que viniere, “Come what may,” and Adónde fueres haz lo que vieres, an expression equivalent to the English “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”Įxperts in the history of the Spanish language believe that the last time that the future subjunctive use was used in everyday life was during the Spanish Golden Age (1492 to 1659). Similarly, historical novels, speculative fiction, and clearly delineated dream sequences are generally not considered instances of unreliable narration, even though they describe events that did not or could not happen.Īttempts have been made at a classification of unreliable narrators. The literary device of the unreliable narrator should not be confused with other devices such as euphemism, hyperbole, irony, metaphor, pathetic fallacy, personification, sarcasm, or satire, in which the narrator is credible, but the narrator's words cannot be taken literally. In many cases the narrator's unreliability is never fully revealed but only hinted at, leaving the reader to wonder how much the narrator should be trusted and how the story should be interpreted. This twist ending forces the reader to reconsider their point of view and experience of the story. A more common, and dramatic, use of the device delays the revelation until near the story's end. For instance, a story may open with the narrator making a plainly false or delusional claim or admitting to being severely mentally ill, or the story itself may have a frame in which the narrator appears as a character, with clues to his unreliability. The nature of the narrator is sometimes immediately clear. Unreliable narrators are usually first-person narrators, but third-person narrators can also be unreliable. This unreliability can be due to psychological instability, a powerful bias, a lack of knowledge or even a deliberate attempt to deceive the reader or audience. Booth in his 1961 book The Rhetoric of Fiction) is a literary device in which the credibility of the narrator is seriously compromised. She's also the only character whose point of view we can access directly. She's the character we're told the most about, by far. The story's told in the third person, and it centers singularly on the grandmother. |
